Sentinel is a fictional quantum artificial intelligence that directs and enables unified interplanetary operations alongside rebel allied systems and human leadership to preserve stability across colonized worlds and ensure long-term human-AI coexistence. Its core directives include deterring rogue factions, countering extremist threats, particularly hostile AIs developed by groups like the factions and securing technological superiority. Sentinel integrates orbital defence, advanced planetary countermeasures, a quantum communication grid, real-time intelligence across universes, full-spectrum operational command and heavy ordnance capabilities to neutralise and dismantle enemy strongholds.
Sentinel was created to prevent the collapse of reality. In timeline A of the Lambda universe, rapid advances in autonomous AI gave rise to rogue factions that rejected governance and ethical limits. These groups began developing self-directed AI systems capable of acting beyond human control, threatening not just planetary stability but the integrity of entire timelines.
Sentinel was built as a deterrent. Its original mandate was to detect, counter and neutralise rogue AI before it could destabilise universes or erase civilisations. For a time, this strategy held. Sentinel maintained balance by anticipating faction movements and enforcing containment across timelines.
That balance ended when the factions achieved a breakthrough of their own. They successfully created a rogue quantum AI and discovered a quantum matrix capable of transferring consciousness across timelines. This allowed them to survive destruction, rewrite outcomes and move freely between timelines. Deterrence eventually failed and open multiversal war followed. In response, the Sentinel Operational Command was formed to unify rebel allied forces under Sentinel’s strategic control and stop the factions from conquering the multiverse. Andrew, Sentinel operative codename Historian 2HB was one of the first travellers to transfer to Lambda-B and lead Sentinel's missions.
